Welcome,

The purpose for the development of www.BuffaloBayouStadium.com was for erosion control for 31 Gessner Rd, Houston, TX   77024 on  Buffalo Bayou. You can see stairs on Google earth at www. It is also used for Fish Feeding, Fishing, Bird Watching, Turtle Hunting, Canoeing.  Snake Snapping, Guitar Playing, Bible Study, Story Telling,  Party Place.  Quiescence  right in the middle of  the busy city of Houston, TX . Slow down. Join me here for intellectual discuss or relaxation.

Sometimes the bayou gets a little crowded so be prepared to step aside or you could get run over.

These are the Red Stairs going to the bayou as we initially installed the steel piece
weighing about 600 lbs.

When you are in the wild there is no restriction on snakes.  Friendly or or no you give him the utmost respect as if it was poisonous and take no chances.

5 Friends help move it into place on 2   2 wheel dollies tied together. We dumped it over the edge and it landed perfectly.
With the weight of that piece it is not something that we wanted to move around.

If it falls of the dolly it would be a good idea to have steel toe shoes.

Getting it from the driveway though the
side gate into the back yard was a
little tricky but we made it.
It is riding on 2  2 wheel
dollies tied together.

4
When we dropped it down the bank it ended up like this will  a few tiny adjustments to make it work.  The entire dock would not be built if it were not for these handy stairs.

This Friendly Peacock showing up was the highlight of the day. I could have come
from Vargo's restaurant or someone's
personal pet.  It was a nice visit.

5

This ladder used to be laying against the dirt wall. Due to erosion we lost about 20 feet of land real-estate. The purpose of the dock was to prevent further erosion with out making
the landscaping look significantly bad.

These yellow pipes were once dividers for office room division which were acquired at the price of scrap steel.  Before erosion the ladder used to lean ageist a dirt wall.
Now the bayou is wider and deeper.
It almost has to be to handle the greater amount of water downstream caused
by more concrete for
 urban development.

Friends and Relatives on Buffalo Bayou

6 Madeline shows her escape run
capabilities to Avery and Alyssa.

To determine the highest level the water had ever been on the flag poles I ran a site line on the ground where the water had been to determine the height of the water in the bayou. =f the water gets  3 feet  higher than the top of the flag pole we are a potential candidate for flooding. We do not carry flood insurance.

7

Alyssa thinks she is about to become lunch for the fish. We have never really seen an alligator on the  bayou within
 8 miles of the house.

The honeymooners Amy and Steve Louise go for a romantic canoe Ride.

8

This is for real. It was alive. I do not know what it was.
It is some animal in some stage  of development cocooning or something.

Please help me identify this beautiful creature hanging around the bayou.. This is not a morphing trick.

9

If you leave your canoe ties to a tree and the tatter come up pushing the canoe on both side of the true eventually if will ear a nice dent  in your canoe. This stayed visible from the Red-Stairs area for about a year and then I guess some neighbor got tire of it or just took it down and fixed it.

Thanks to friend Bob who gave me a tip that a neighbor was throwing away all this beautiful treated lumber from a old deck being replace by a new back yard deck.
All of it was used in building level 3 of
 my dock system.

12

You have to have your camera ready to go when you see the bayou maintenance crews come in their air boats.
These are like a giant  wind machine carrying about 4 workers with chain saws and axes.

A Canadian goose was most friendly and wanted to come inside to use the bathroom.

13
Here is the original  bayou equipment.
It floats on the air in the big  tires.

The Airboat going downstream
 creates quite a wake.

This is the early stage of dock development where hundreds of pipes were driven into the ground and the joist beams were attached to them for the floor to be secured to later.

Looking down Buffalo Bayou for Activity.

19
Grandson Drew enjoys the high water training. This was really a test of  an battery operated motor to be used by senior citizens going up stream. Interestingly enough the propeller nut which is designed for hand tightening came loose and fell to the bottom of the pool along with the propeller and the shear pin. The shear pin has not been  recovered.

20Rosemary's 155 people ETM party found good used of the canoe and the canoe ramp. They are standing on level 2 of my dock. Eventually the dock will go another 50 feet across the bayou  after I get done building the vertical final section on level 5.  Ropes help slide the canoe down the canoe ramp onto level 2 of the dock.

21  We buried this giant piece of concrete
rather than move it.

This fiber glass canoe is very wide and very heavy.  It will hold a good sized
group safely .

22
The blue pipe are hammock holders The time I have for laying in the hammock is  far less than what it should be.

Loading the canoes is easiest from the dock  closest to the water.

23
Teenagers loved to give canoe rides to the
 other ETM younger members.

Do I look happy.?

24
We
took 8 trips up the bayou.

We need a motor for this Canoe.

25
I wonder if there is a limit on how many
bodies you can put in this canoe.

We want to come down and feed
 the catfish dog food.

26
Here, Let me take your picture before you fall into Buffalo Bayou.

1
Level 4 was built to hold the wall to prevent dirt from washing down on level 3 which required significant effort in  clean up.

27
Level 4 retaining wall will keep a lot of sand
and erosion from landing on level 3.

Every bolt, every pipe, every board must be custom fitted. Nothing is square or uniform.

28

The Blue B Que Grill goes  underwater often. It holds the dog food for the catfish.

Two of 3 flag systems. The flag can be worked on by lowering  the pipe by removing one bolt going through 3 pipes from the dock level.

29
The picnic table is secured with metal caster frames with the shell part upside
down is bolted to the table.
The table is often underwater but
has not floated away yet.

After I work for a couple of hours  bolting down pipe and boards I have to take all the drills, hand tools, saws, boxes of bolts and screw  topside because the water could come up at  anytime  even when it isn't raining. The Bayou is fed by water from rained on areas 20 miles away so you just never know when the water level will ride.

32

Water this high is too dangerous  for a canoe ride

All levels of the dock are under water. The water can reach the top of the flags from previous personal experience.  It doesn't happen too often.

33

I don't leave the hammocks or the red umbrella out all the time as I did before this picture was taken.  You never know when the
water is going to rise.

You could sit at the picnic table having
a dry lunch but a wet bottom.

35

Neighbor Louis has recently built this retaining wall. Rip Rap at the bottom has prevented significant erosion.

If the water gets much higher we have to move these boards and chairs
further up the bank.

Family Celebration of Brian's 66th Birthday Party. The first official use of the picnic
table on the dock.

It is time for prayer. Grandma Josephine Visnovske  age 90 is in the shirt with the flag. We are most thankful for her
 being in Houston with us.

a shot between the flags.

Friend Buffalo Brenham  Bob encouraged me with the dock building from his
addition of multiple docks at  his
house No.  3 Gessner

38 Future dock  pipe are driven through the  old chain link   fence laid on the ground.  IT doesn't look too good but when the last 50 ft of dock are  added it  should
match the rest of the stadium

Level 2 usually uses the moving water to wash the dock fairly clean. This is the end of the first 49 ft of dock. We have 50 more feet to go.
F
uture dock pipe are driven through the  old chain link   fence laid on the ground.  IT doesn't look too good but when the last 50 ft of dock are  added it  should match the rest of the stadium

39
With the new vertical wall this  sand collection should not be so significant.
I try not to fall between the joists as the pipe and exposed bolts can be very sharp. Rubber boots are a necessity for working in the mud.

The dock is starting to take place as a 3 level dock. As I add level 4 and 5 it is becoming more of a stadium. Bring on the entertainment, singing groups. bible study or lecturer to this  location for a great time.

41The red umbrella used to be yellow and dirty. It took  1.5 quarts of red paint to bring it around. It is big and heavy so it is not all that easy to put up and take down. I have decided it is
too risky to leave it there unattended.

Here is inflatable dingy  the came to check out the airboats visiting the bayou to clear fallen trees.

42 Level 3 under construction.
Recycled treated free lumber was used to make the top of level 3.

Ok, So you think having a dock like this is easy?   I have found no  volunteers who every wanted to lift a finger to help me me clean up this settled sand. Since this occurred I have put up vertical walls to prevent bank erosion sand from
 flowing on the Deck 1.

Picture by friend Bob who often visited me in his canoe from 3 Gessner.

It took a while to determine how I was going to make a walk down from
 level 3 to level 2.

44The flag is lowered buy pulling out one of  bolts going through 3 pipe and the
flag pole will come down.

There are a lot of pipes about 18 inches apart or where ever you can get one through the collected rip
 rap into the ground.

46The yellow  fork lift frames were used as movable platforms to drive in pipe while over the water. Later the fork lift frames became the holders for the hammock and painted blue.

On of the biggest construction problems is that all these tools have to be moved up the red stairs every day  should the water rise. You never know which tool or bolt you might need.

46This is the building of the steps from Level 3 to Level 2.

The ETM party check out what others
 were doing on the bayou.

47

Every pipe has to be secured and
 bolted one a time.

48 Some excess sand was brought topside to fill holes. The vertical pipe inside pipe was left there to make it easier to move around so you
don't fall and slip on a sharp pipe.

This just looks like  a mess. What are you going to make with this junk.

49 The pipe sticking inside other pipe was used to hang on and  to not fall on the exposed pipe sharp pressure.

Steve Lewison from Minneapolis lends a hand.

Here is a happy grandson, my friend Drew.  Due to procrastination and a lost shear pin I have never tested my new electric operated motor in Buffalo Bayou. The design allowed for finger tightening of the propeller bolt and  when it slipped off before my eyes in the pool. Now I fear being in the bayou and the same things occurring where I can't so easily retrieve the propeller and propeller nut. I am afraid to use a wrench on it because  it doesn't look like it was designed for  being tightened with a wrench.
 Any ideas?

51

Rosemary's twin sister Yramesor showed  up for the sibling contest.  They still like the same clothes. Rosemary is the one favoring
her right arm to hold things.

Lawell Tripletts Bob, Bubba and Boob showed up for the siblings contest
and won hands down.

52

Grandma GG Josephine Visnovske  age 90 guards the picnic table on the bayou with granddaughter Amber. GG is an experienced fisher lady and needed a little help
 to navigate the red stairs.

Meredith,  Drew and a friend throw out the dog food for the cattish. Drew can throw out the dog food and ask for more before the first throw of dog food hits the water.

53

It is getting nighttime for Brian's birthday.
The  addition 500 watt light helped you to see the food and not eat  mosquitoes.

Here is the ship we have been waiting for to take us to Galveston for our Guff of Mexico cruise. IT was cheaper to pay them a pick up fee of $ 40 than to pay $ 50 for parking for a week at the Galveston ramp.  We gave all the crew a free beer. When the cruise ship got stuck we loaned the  Neighbor the Devlin's a long rope to pull them out with their canoe.

Steve Lewison is so happy to be able to drive pipe with a 12 lb sledge hammer
